What are Tooth Extractions?

Tooth extractions are performed in-office when a tooth is severely decayed, loose, or poses a problem to your overall oral health. Extractions are simple surgeries that require a minimal amount of anesthesia and aftercare. However, it is important to always come into the office to have a tooth extracted using professional tools and techniques. Drs. Cynthia Chen and Chris Ching will ensure that the procedure is as painless as possible, and that aftercare is maintained.

Why do you need Tooth Extractions?

In order to determine if you need to have a tooth extracted, it is important to come into the office for an examination and series of x-rays. This not only helps to determine if a tooth needs to come out, but it helps to identify bone condition and nerve positioning that wouldn’t be seen otherwise. Some of the reasons you may need to have a tooth extracted include:

  • A tooth is severely decayed and beyond the point of saving
  • A tooth is loose due to periodontal disease or bone loss
  • A tooth poses a problem to your future oral health (wisdom teeth)
  • You are going to be fitted for dentures

What makes you a good candidate for Tooth Extractions?

Your oral health is entirely in your hands. While some teeth can be saved with other methods, such as root canals and crowns, extractions are often the quickest and simplest of procedures to rid yourself of pain and discomfort. Drs. Cynthia Chen and Chris Ching will discuss all of the viable options with you prior to the procedure.

What happens during the procedure for Tooth Extractions?

You will first receive the local anesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable for you. The tooth will then be removed using a variety of extraction tools. You may receive sutures depending on the area where the tooth was extracted. You will go home with aftercare instructions that must be followed to ensure proper healing. We are here to help if you have questions before or after the procedure. Extractions are done at your own convenience and in a manner, that is comfortable and relaxing.
